From the Trude Forsher Collection

From the very start of Elvis’ career, the Colonel employed a wide variety of marketing methods to promote the singing sensation. Colonel perceived fans clubs as a grassroots way of reaching local audiences of fans and would encourage the formation and growth by keeping fan clubs in the know on Elvis engagements and record releases. The first fan club started in 1956, and in 1958 during his Army service, the Tankers Fan Club, named after Elvis’ role in the Tank Battalion, was founded by Gary Pepper. Shortly after, fan clubs began springing up everywhere, reaching over 400 clubs around the globe. Offered is a collection of early fan club materials that includes: four (4) The Tankcaster issues, two measuring 14 by 8 1/2 inches (35.56 x 21.59) and two measuring 11 by 8 1/2 inches (27.94 x 21.59 cm); an Elvis Presley “Tankers” membership card, measuring 2 1.2 by 3 1/2 inches (6.35 x 8.89 cm); an Elvis Presley composite photo from Gary Pepper, measuring 5 1/2 by 3 1/2 inches (13.97 x 8.89 cm); a 1961 Elvis Presley Christmas Postcard send by Gary Pepper to Trude Forsher, measuring 5 1/2 by 3 1/4 inches (13.97 x 8.26 cm); an “Elvis Monthly” letterhead, measuring 11 by 8 1/2 inches (27.94 x 21.59 cm); a “Happiness is...Elvis” newsletter, measuring 14 by 8 1/2 inches (35.56 x 21.59); a “World Wide Elvis Presley Fan Club” newsletter, measuring 11 by 8 1/2 inches (27.94 x 21.59 cm); an Elvis Presley Fan Club Membership Card for Trude Forsher, measuring 2 1/4 by 3 1/4 inches (6.35 x 8.26 cm); Elvis Presley Tankers Fan Club mailing envelope addressed to Trude Forsher c/o Tom Parker at 20th Century Fox Studios, measuring 4 1/8 by 9 1/2 inches (10.47 x 24.13 cm); and two (2) Elvis Presley National Fan Club pinback buttons, each measuring 1 inch (2.54 cm) in diameter. While masterminded by the Colonel, everyone working in his office would attend to fan club correspondence to make certain that the clubs received the high level of attention they rightly deserved, and Trude Forsher was no exception. The assemblage, representing a solid cross-section of early fan materials, is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The material presents with some folds and filing-related wear. Excellent or better overall condition.
