From the Trude Forsher Collection

This touching missive on scalloped-edge, floral embellished stationery from Trude Forsher to Colonel Parker expresses her gratitude to the Colonel for her job with him and Elvis as their assistant on the West Coast. Trude Forsher played a pivotal role as Colonel Parker and Elvis’ secretary in Hollywood during the early part of his career, starting in 1956 right after Elvis’ appearance on The Milton Berle Show and continuing through February 1961. This poignant note, dated only “Sunday,” states in part:

Thank you so very much for your kindness. I am looking forward to being the most efficient, discreet and dilligent [sic] secretary you have ever had -- to show you my appreciation for the break you are giving me. By taking me under your protective wing I hope to get the same jet-propelled start in writing, as you have given your other protegees in their fields. This sounds almost immature, but I could not sleep last night, I was so excited. I have worked day and night the past couple of years to prepare myself for THE opportunity. I will do my utmost now because I want the Aberbachs and you Col. Parker, to be proud of me.

This compassionate letter comes with the original envelope and an additional small note, most likely related to the note being delivered to Colonel Parker at his offices at the Paramount Pictures studio. The note reads “Lew Wahman Mail Dept. Paramount Pictures.” This historic letter, documenting the hiring of Trude, measures 8 by 6 inches (20.32 x 15.24 cm), the envelope measures 4 1/4 by 6 1/4 inches (10.8 x 15.88 cm) and the pair is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The letter is in Near Mint condition.
