George Klein was a great high school pal of Elvis’ and after graduating he received a scholarship to Memphis State University, where George continued his education while Elvis’ entertainment career was beginning its swift ascent. George attended Memphis State with their mutual friend Winston “Wink” Martindale. During 1955, Elvis’ career was in overdrive as he reached the national charts by July and outgrew his label by October. The following year Elvis would make his first television appearance. Offered is a green, hardbound copy of DeSoto, the Memphis State yearbook from that pivotal year of 1955. Page 146 includes images of DeSoto beauty queen judge Tony Curtis, also in the budding stages of his movie and television career during this time. Page 184 includes a picture of Elvis with Mayor Tobey, who “demonstrates his versatility” by strumming a guitar, and page 201 has the sophomore class of 1957’s formal pictures, which include those of George Klein and Wink Martindale. This clean copy of the yearbook, with no interior markings, measures 12 1/4 by 9 1/4 by 1 inch (31.11 x 23.49 x 2.54 cm) and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The yearbook is in excellent condition overall with minor edge and corner wear consistent with age. Lower right corner has very slight budge marks.
