From the Collection of Dixie Locke Emmons

Dixie Locke and Elvis met in late 1953 at the First Assembly of God church in Memphis. The two began dating and even after their lives steered them in different directions, they remained close friends. Not only were Dixie and Elvis in love during the years they were together, but their families were also close, so it’s natural that the two had discussed thoughts of getting married. So confident were the two that a legal union was in their future, Elvis inscribed the offered black-and-white photo postcard in pencil on the reverse to “My (high) tempered little sister-in-law” for Dixie’s sister, who Dixie describes in her accompanying letter as being a beautiful redhead who was in fact a “little high tempered.”

According to Dixie, the charming image of Elvis on this photo postcard was taken at Blue Light Studio in Memphis. While Dixie recalls the inscription containing the word “high” to describe her sister’s level of temper, the photo postcard has been trimmed on the edge so that only the very end of the word is still visible. This early and delightfully playful keepsake captures the youthful star and his adoration for his young love and her family. The photo measures 4 7/8 by 3 1/3 inches (12.38 x 8.45 cm) and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

Bottom and edge of photo shows evidence of being trimmed, marks and creasing on front with some discoloration on the reverse.
