From The Trude Forsher Collection

RCA Victor released the single 45 “Love Me Tender / Any Way You Want Me,” recorded by Elvis in September of 1956 just prior to the distribution of the 20th Century Fox film of the same name. The song, an astounding success, reached number one status on both the Billboard and Cashbox charts that same year. Following on the success of the single release “Hound Dog,” as Elvis gained popularity on the musical scene, RCA found it fitting to add color to the single’s picture sleeve. The photo of Elvis sitting on the film set of Love Me Tender with his guitar was originally produced in black-and-white with three color washes adding shades of light pink, dark pink and green. After this release, as Elvis’ acclaim continued to rapidly gain traction, RCA would include full color on Elvis’ picture sleeves. This example of the dark pink picture sleeve comes with the original RCA Victor 47-6643 single with matrix number G2WW-4767, making it the “Hollywood Pressing,” as it’s known among collectors. The dark pink sleeve has been signed and inscribed by Elvis “Love Ya, Elvis Presley.” The record sold over a million copies and with both the song and film, his movie debut, being created in about 5 months, this was a most pivotal time for Elvis as his career accelerated on the fast track to fame. The sleeve is also signed by Elvis’ cousin “Yours Gene Smith.” The 45 sleeve measures 7 by 7 inches (17.78 x 17.78 cm) and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The sleeve presents with mild wrinkling and a few creases, none of which affect the signature. Excellent to Mint condition.
