As most will concede, Elvis was generous to a fault and Linda Thompson was certainly the recipient of that generosity while she and Elvis dated. Linda met Elvis at the Memphian Theater in Memphis in 1972 and was introduced by George Klein. Elvis was captivated by Linda, the 22-year-old Miss Tennessee at the time, and after she returned from a family vacation, the two began dating. The relationship lasted for over four years until before the Christmas holidays in 1976. During this time Elvis, in his usual generosity, showered Linda with lavish gifts; it is believed that he spent nearly a quarter of a million dollars on jewelry for her. The offered spectacular opal and diamond ring would certainly confirm those suspicions. Ancient Romans revered this precious stone, believing it symbolized love and hope, making this the perfect symbol of Elvis' affection towards Linda. The large center opal, measuring 28 by 19 mm and weighing a stunning 22.18 carats is surrounded by 30 diamonds, each measuring 0.25 mm for a total weight of 1 carat. The gorgeous yellow-gold ring, size 7 1/2, weighs 12 grams.

Long after the relationship with Elvis ended, Linda decided to offer a portion of the jewels gifted from Elvis at a Christie’s auction. News of the event was covered by the National Enquirer, in the pages of which Linda shared that Elvis had once told her, “Something is not beautiful unless someone else sees it.” It was this belief and the fact that, “It seemed selfish and silly to have all these pieces that Elvis gave me just sit hidden in a dark safety-deposit box. I just hope they will bring as much joy to someone else as they brought to me,” that moved Linda to sell. This very ring is pictured in that National Enquirer article, a copy of which comes with the ring. The Christies sale was held on June 7, 1988 and this ring was offered as lot 249 with the description "Set with an oval opal weighing approximately 22.18 cts. surrounded by circular-cut diamonds, mounted in yellow gold. A gift in 1974; Elvis was drawn to opals because he felt they were magical." The ring was offered again in 2006 in a Jim Norman auction along with four other pieces once owned by Linda Thompson. This ravishing large opal and diamond ring is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The ring presents with only minor wear. Near Mint condition.
