The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo was first established in 1931 as the Houston Fat Stock Show and Livestock Exposition and has continued to grow over the years, drawing many of the biggest recording artists and continuing to this day. While attendance for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo now exceeds two million annually, in 1974 an attendance record was hit by Elvis Presley, whose first show of the day had an audience of close to 44,000. Later that very same day, Elvis broke his own record, with his second show exceeding that number and making the total attendance for the day over 88,000. These were Elvis’ last two shows performed at the Houston Astrodome. Offered is an official’s badge that was given to Dr. Nichopoulos during the 1974 Elvis Presley concerts at the Houston Astrodome. The badge features the logo for the 1974 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, the broader event of which the Elvis shows were a part. The badge comes with a handwritten letter from Dr. Nick on George C. Nichopoulos, M.D. stationery, dated Aug 11, 2002, that states, “This gold Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo badge was given to me (by Elvis) when we were doing the shows at the Astrodome in 1974. When Elvis handed it to me he said be sure to wear at all times during the show for full access to the arena.” The badge measures 2 by 2 inches (5.08 x 5.08 cm) and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The badge is in good condition with minor edge and surface wear and overall patina.
