Elvis began his first American tour in September of 1970 after 12 years. The tour begins almost immediately after the conclusion of his Las Vegas season at the International. It starts in Phoenix on the 9th of September and continues through Detroit, Miami, Mobile, Tampa and St. Louis. It is on September 13, 1970 that Elvis appears in Tampa Florida at Curtis Hixon Convention Center for two shows, one at 3:00 in the afternoon and the second at 8:30 in the evening. The review of the afternoon performance in the St. Petersburg Times describes Elvis on stage, “He strode out there with complete presence, consummate showmanship, and the screams went up to the rafter and the flashbulbs literally made a strobe effect in the air. ... Elvis vibrated as of old, lunged with hips and guitar, sang a run of songs in that very Elvis voice, which has never failed or wavered. It’s a voice anyone can recognize, with its country inflections, its resonance, its intimacy - a far pleasanter and realer voice than that of, say, Eddie Fisher, his contemporary in the 1950s. He strikes a pose, hip cocked, a thumb hooked in the leather belt, like a Memphis drugstore cowpoke on a corner, but the clean strong chin thrusts out like that on a Greek statue, but then Elvis looks down at himself, down the V of the jacket at his chest, then down between his legs, to the floor, and then carefully, coyly, at the audience. Scream, he is saying. And they do.” Offered are five original square color snapshots with white border and printed with the Sept 70 date. Four pictures depict Elvis on stage and one shows the marquis. The reverse of the snapshots contain the handwritten notation “9/13/70 Matinee” on three and “9/13/70 Evening” on two. The photos each measures 3 1/2 by 3 1/2 inches (8.89 x 8.89 cm) and the group is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The snapshots are in excellent condition with typical signs of age.
