Elvis returned to Vegas in 1969, with his show opening at the International Hotel on July 31 to rave reviews and packed houses. Following the success of initial performance, Elvis conducted a press conference at 12:30 a.m. on August 1, 1969 during which he told reporters, “For the first three songs or so, I didn’t feel relaxed until after ‘Love Me Tender’ before I loosened up... then I thought, ‘What the heck, get with it, man, or you might be out of a job tomorrow.’” Elvis was candid through the interview and responded to all the questions asked, including “Why have you waited so long to perform live again?” Elvis said, “My decision to return was made in 1965, and it was hard to wait... I don’t think I could have waited any longer... We had to finish up the movie commitments we had before I could start on this ... I missed the live contact with an audience. It was getting harder and harder to sing to a camera all day.” Elvis’ enthusiasm for being back on stage was palpable and continued throughout his August performances which by the end of the month had a record breaking attendance of over 100,000 and gross revenue over $1.5 million. Offered are eight (8) original Kodak color snapshots, of which four (4) show Elvis on stage wearing his black Cossack-top two-piece suit with a blue scarf. He is also using the custom microphone given to him by the International Hotel at the start of the engagement. The reverse of each photo has the handwritten notation “8-69 by Barb Dobie.” Barb apparently had good seats because the photos are some of the closest we have seen from one of Elvis’ inaugural concerts at the International Hotel (likely from August 18, 1969). The additional four (4) photos show the hotel and its marquis, during the day and all lit up at night. These four photos have the Kodak date stamp on the side of “AUG 69.” Each of the photos measures 3 1/2 by 3 1/2 inches (1.37 x 1.37 cm) and the group is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The photos present with mild toning but few other distresses. Near Mint condition.
