Elvis’ first tour in 1977 began on February 12th in Hollywood, Florida and his final tour of five for the year started with the June 17th performance in Springfield, Missouri. Unknown at the time, this June tour in the Midwest would turn out to be his last before his untimely death that August. A couple of the shows on this last tour were filmed for the CBS television special “Elvis in Concert.” The reviews of this tour in local papers did as much justice to the King of Rock ’n’ Roll as he did himself in providing entertainment to his fans. Some of the reviews touted, “Fans shrieked, swoon as Elvis croons his tunes,” and “Only a lout with no appreciation whatsoever for modern popular music could have escaped Presley’s spell.”

Elvis was adoringly received at what would be his very last concert on June 26, 1977 at the Market Square Arena in Indianapolis, Indiana. A newspaper review of the show touted that Elvis performed in true Presley style before 18,000 “enthusiastic, sweaty palmed” fans. It described the event and reaction from the crowd with accolades and noted, “The coveted scarves, tossed into the audience after gracing the singer’s neck, caused mad scrambles by the stage as he got rid of them just about as fast as they were put around his neck. The fans were well-behaved, considering the stampedes that take place at rock concerts.” In addition to the overwhelmingly positive reception from fans, Elvis was also presented with a plaque commemorating the pressing of the two billionth record at RCA’s Indianapolis Pressing Plant. Appropriate for the venue and timely given that this would be Elvis’ last ever concert performance.

Offered is a collection of thirty-six (36) 35mm color negatives and thirty-four (34) color photos (contained in a spiral photo album) of this June 26 concert. The negatives are on nine (9) strips that each measure 1 1/2 by 6 inches (3.81 x 15.24 cm) and each photo, with a printed dated of Jun 1977 on the reverse, measures 3 1/2 by 5 inches (8.89 x 12.7 cm). Elvis is depicted in the images wearing his Aztec or Mexican Sundial jumpsuit. This historic concert grouping comes with a 1977 pocket picture calendar and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The photos are in excellent condition overall with typical discoloration from age.
