Almost exactly a year to the day after his first appearance as a music star, Elvis returned once again to his hometown of Tupelo to perform at the fairground in a show to benefit the planned Elvis Presley Youth Center. The local paper welcomes him home by referring to him as “the best ambassador any town could have” and encouraging people to warmly embrace his return. Elvis takes the stage in his gold lamé jacket that Friday night to a crown of 12,000 and sings in front of a banner promoting his film Jailhouse Rock. Offered is a group of photos capturing this concert and emanating from the collection of an Arkansas woman who was an Elvis Presley fan club president in the 1950s who most likely snapped these photos herself during the concert. The group includes eleven (11) photos of Elvis performing on stage and seven (7) photos at a backstage news conference. Each photo has “Kodak Velox Paper” printed on the reverse (a paper used in the 1950s and 1960s) and white border areas with scalloped edges. Included with this offering is a modern copy of a snapshot developed in December of 1957 of the photographer’s bedroom, which most interestingly show two of these very snapshots displayed on the outside of a frame holding a promotional photo. Despite singing his biggest hits to an appreciative crowd of fans and raising $10,000, Tupelo never built the youth center, so these photos remain one of the few touching tributes from that concert to the early days of Elvis’ generosity.  Each photo measures 3 1/2 by 5 1/4 inches (8.89 x 13.33 cm) and the group is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The photos present in extremely well-preserved condition. Only small areas of edge wear, only affecting the borders, and some slight fading impact the photos. Near Mint condition overall, with some lesser.
Group of 18 Vintage Photos of Elvis Presley in Concert September 27, 1957, in Tupelo, Mississippi
