Elvis bought his first Harley in 1956 and his passion for motorcycles was as driven as his love for automobiles and music. A symbol of freedom and independence, Elvis’ motorcycles provided him with an escape from the daily pressures of being a celebrated entertainer, so he avidly collected and rode. Graceland currently has several of Elvis’ motorcycles in the permanent collection. Offered is a green motorcycle plate with the raised imprint “Cycle ZM-8446 Tenn. 73” in black on the green background. The plate may have been used on a custom-made Harley-Davidson that Elvis bought in 1971. This example was originally sold in the 1999 Graceland Archives Auction (Lot B123) as part of a larger lot. The license plate measures 4 1/2 by 7 3/4 inches (11.43 x 19.68 cm) and is accompanied by a copy of the letter of authenticity from the 1999 auction and a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The motorcycle plate is in good, used condition overall.
