From the Trude Forsher Collection

In 1955, Hal Wallis obtained the rights to A Stone for Danny Fisher, a successful 1952 novel, with James Dean in mind for the lead role of the boxer in New York. After Dean’s death in 1955, the project was tabled until several years later in 1957, when Elvis Presley was considered for the role, and the lead character was changed to a singer in New Orleans—thus was King Creole born. The film stars Elvis as Danny Fisher, who finds himself embroiled in an adventure with gangs, fights and frenzied turmoil over work, family and love. Of course, the film employs Elvis at what he does best, singing, as the character of Danny woos his love interest at the club, aptly named King Creole. The offered group of promotional ephemera includes a bumper sticker measuring 4 by 18 inches (10.16 x 45.72 cm); a decal measuring 7 by 4 1/2 inches (17.78 x 11.43 cm); a newspaper article entitled “Wallis Keeps Them Coming” above a head shot of Elvis; and a group of four (4) black-and-white photos, each measuring 4 by 5 inches (10.16 x 12.7 cm), that consist of three images of a party attended by Elvis, Trude Forsher, the Colonel and others, and one of the Colonel on the studio lot, each photo containing the promotional balloons for King Creole. One photo is inscribed in fading blue ink “Best always Tom Diskin.” This group, consisting of seven total pieces of ephemera related to the film King Creole, originates from the collection of Trude Forsher and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The bumper sticker has been folded in half with discoloration marks around the edges and center fold line while the backing is still intact. The decal has minor vertical creasing and the photos are in very good to excellent condition overall.
