Elvis provided lightweight jackets to members of his last tour in 1977. Offered is one of these iconic “summer” Elvis Presley “TCB” tour jackets—this one was originally owned by guitarist James Burton. James Burton was known as the “master of the Telecaster” and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001. He has played for artists such as Ricky Nelson, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Glen Campbell, John Denver, Emmylou Harris, Judy Collins, Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Costello, Roy Orbison, Steve Young and many more; however, during his time with Elvis he felt a particular loyalty. After turning Elvis down for the “‘68 Comeback Special” because he was too busy at the time, James agreed the second time Elvis came calling, and organized and led the TCB band that backed Elvis from 1969 until 1977. This lightweight TCB jacket bears the appropriate “Apollo by Halloway” tag (which has faded from wear). The size XL lightweight jacket maintains all of its original glory, with the large “Elvis IN CONCERT” patch on the front left breast and the gold “TCB” patch on the left sleeve. The nylon “summer” baseball-style jacket has a front zip closure and red and white stripped ribbing at the waist, collar and cuffs. The jacket comes with a letter that reads,

This Elvis jacket is very cool and comes from the best source: Mr. James Burton! My father in law was Wayne Durham, he played bass guitar and had been friends with James, as he would say, “For as long as I could remember.” Wayne was touring with Merle Haggard when James was with Elvis and from time to time, they would be in the same town and would hang out. Wayne even told me a cool story of him letting Elvis borrow his motorcycle and Elvis and his wife had been gone all day. The mafia was about to beat him up then Elvis suddenly appeared and took care of it, lol!! When Wayne gave me the jacket he said it was given to him by James in the 70s, he didn’t remember the year, but knew it was in the 70s and James wanted him to have it.

The jacket, measuring 27 inches (68.58 cm) in length, is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The jacket presents with only minor signs of wear. The pocket tag has worn off, but otherwise the jacket is intact. Near Mint condition.
