This great, early collection from Elvis’ Army days while stationed in Germany, shows his dedication to his fans and their continued adoration. In this example of a fan response letter, on “From Elvis Aron Presley / U.S. Army, Friedberg Germany” letterhead, with facsimile signature, Elvis expresses his gratitude for the letters he receives. He explains that his Army duties keep him from being able to respond to each and every question but that he looks forward to the time he returns to his homeland and will be able to entertain once again. It is evident from the tone and language of the letter that Elvis has written or dictated his very thoughts in response. It is a heartwarming thanks to all of his fans who waited patiently for their king’s return. The letter, measuring 11 by 8 1/8 inches (27.94 by 20.64 cm), comes with its original mailing envelope addressed to Rosalyn Clute, postmarked September 25, 1959, and measuring 4 1/2 x 6 1/4 inches (11.43 x 15.87 cm).

Any fan would be thrilled to receive this personalized letter and photo and would have likely added it to their copy of the Elvis in the Army fan publication by Ideal Magazine, which is also offered here. It contains over 150 images of Elvis and articles like “He’s in the Army Now” and “How He Changed as a Lover.” The magazine measures 10 3/4 by 8 3/8 inches (27.31 by 21.27 cm). This collection also includes a King Creole card, featuring Elvis in his Army uniform, measuring 3 1/2 by 2 1/2 inches (8.89 x 6.35 cm) and a Christmas postcard that reads “Holiday Greetings to You All from Elvis and the Colonel” which measures 3 1/2 by 5 1/2 inches (8.89 x 13.97 cm). The publication, letter, card and postcard allowed fans to stay close to Elvis while he was overseas and keep him foremost in their minds and hearts. This ephemera fan collection is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The letter presents with original mailing folds and several small stains but no edge wear or paper loss. The Elvis in the Army magazine has foxing to the cover and is discolored from age and the cards exhibit edge wear. The collection is in Excellent condition overall.
