Elvis dominated Las Vegas in the 1970s, when there was no brighter star shining in the City of Lights than Elvis himself. A highlight of his performance for fans was his tossing of scarves to the audience during his shows, and it was during this period that the scarves became an Elvis trademark. Charlie Hodge would typically be waiting in the wings of the stage to toss Elvis another scarf when he gave one to an adoring fan in the crowd. So popular was this gesture that the Colonel began selling scarves printed with a facsimile Elvis signature at all of the shows, and it was these that Charlie would have in quantity to hand to Elvis during the concert. Offered is an Elvis Presley rare purple scarf, with silver facsimile signature and rounded corners that measures 33 1/2 by 33 1/2 inches (85.09 x 85.09 cm), from the August 18, 1975, concert at the Las Vegas Hilton that was given by Elvis to Sue Black as mentioned in her accompanying letter which states in part, ”In the 1970’s I dated a Gentleman that was friends with some of Elvis Presley’s Inner Circle. He took me to Las Vegas numerous times to see Elvis Presley at his Las Vegas Hilton Engagements. I received many scarves directly from Elvis Presley including the one referenced above.” Her letter also lists the additional items she kept from that evening which are also being offered and include:

  • Hilton Table Tent Card, measuring 3 by 6 inches (7.62 x 15.24 cm) folded;
  • Souvenir Pinback Button, measuring 4 inches (10.16 cm) in diameter;
  • 1975 Summer Festival Postcard, measuring 5 by 7 inches (12.7 x 17.78 cm);
  • 1975 Summer Festival Las Vegas Hilton Souvenir Tour Photo with Concert Map on the reverse, measuring 11 by 8 1/2 inches (27.94 x 21.59 cm);
  • Opening Night Summer Festival Souvenir Folio and Menu, measuring 11 by 11 inches (27.94 x 27.94 cm); and also includes
  • 1975 Elvis Picture Pocket Calendar, measuring 4 by 2 1/4 inches (10.16 x 5.71 cm).

This collection of seven (7) pieces from that August 18, 1975 evening with the unusual purple scarf, emanating from the woman who acquired the artifacts that very evening, is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The scarf exhibits signs of slight discoloration along the fold lines and edges from storage, which does not detract from the vibrant deep purple color. The additional artifacts in the collection are in excellent condition overall with typical signs of wear and age.
