Elvis was well-known for his generosity and philanthropy, which became a long-standing tradition. In this grand spirit of giving, Elvis donated a green shirt with gold stars across the chest and gold buttons down the front to Boy Scout Troop #225 to raise money for their Jamboree Trip Fund. Tickets were printed for the raffle and each sold for a donation of 50 cents. The tickets stated, “Elvis’ Shirt - Right Off His Back From Las Vegas On Display,” with the drawing to be held at “1:00, Sat., June 30, ’73” and “You Do Not Have to Be Present To Win!” The shirt is accompanied by raffle ticket number 860. Harold A. Smith purchased this ticket in 1973 and was the lucky winner. After winning the shirt, an article was published in the Memphis Press-Scimitar. Harold’s wife, Shirley Elaine Smith, who was a part-time nurse at Methodist Hospital on Union Avenue in Memphis, took the shirt to work and was able to get Elvis’ autograph on the bottom left. Harold had the shirt framed and it hung in his KOA campground office as a big attraction until he sold the campground in 1984. The shirt was originally acquired directly from Harold Amos Smith, Jr. and comes with a letter telling the story. This incredible shirt, in a shade of green reminiscent of Boy Scout uniforms, with gold stars across the chest, shoulders, on the collar and at the cuffs, is a marvelous homage to this American institution from an American icon and success story. One can almost picture Elvis blending into the Boy Scout fold dressed in this appropriate costume. The shirt is made by DeVoss in 100% cotton and is size M. It is stamped “Elvis” in the collar and is signed on the lower left front side “Love Elvis Presley” in black ink. A fitting tribute to a worthy organization by the ultimate Eagle Scout. The ticket measures approximately 2 1/2 by 5 1/8 inches (6.35 x 13.0175 cm) and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The shirt is in excellent condition overall with a very minor stain to the lower left of the signature and a series of holes along the upper back and upper sleeve, likely where it had been mounted for display. There are two very small stains on the back and additional minor holes with one applied star loosening. The ticket is in good condition overall with a substance stuck to the reverse which has stained through to the front of the ticket in on the upper left and center. Evidence of staple holes in the corners are evident. Fold marks are apparent in the upper corners and the ticket shows signs of handling and age.
