In 1953, a revolutionary new men’s adult lifestyle and entertainment magazine was created by Hugh Hefner in Chicago and was called Playboy. This new publication would play a vital role in the sexual revolution of the period, with the first Playboy Men’s Clubs opening soon thereafter in the 1960s. The first issue of Playboy, released in December of 1953, famously included a nude centerfold of Marilyn Monroe, setting the tone for future issues and establishing the magazine’s popularity. The original logo of the rabbit with tuxedo tie was intended to be frisky and playful, a symbol of the magazine’s intent. The rabbit was chosen in part, of course, because they are well known for their frequent proclivity to reproduce. The popularity of the men’s magazine only increased in the 1960s and 1970s and became a more common “household” publication. Offered is a copy of Playboy magazine from September 1967 with a football-themed cover that has been signed by Elvis against the green background in the upper left. Elvis has signed in blue ink with a strong signature, the shadow of which can be seen on the inside of the cover. The magazine comes with a letter from Victoria Ansterich that states, “This letter is to testify that Elvis Presley personally signed this PLAYBOY magazine that my husband Tom bought from a Memphis car dealership salesman several years back when we were living in Texas. The salesman was working at the dealership on December the 28th 1967, when Elvis pulled up to buy a car. If you can imagine, it was one of those typical Elvis things that only he could do in bold fashion! He then asked Elvis sign [sic] the magazine for him, which Elvis obliged to do.” Autographed Playboy magazines have always been collectible for the appeal of famous celebrity signatures blended with the sexual allure of the publication. The offered example is a perfect conflux of one of the biggest heartthrobs in music history signing one of the most famous publications. The magazine measures 11 by 8 1/2 inches (27.94 x 21.59 cm) and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The magazine, showing typical signs of wear from age and use with two large creases across the cover, is in excellent condition overall and the signature is bold and strong.
