This early 1955 black-and-white promo photograph depicts a young Elvis Presley with folded hands wearing a wristwatch. “Elvis Presley” is printed in the lower left margin and “160 Union Ave, Memphis, Ten” (the remainder of the word “Tennessee” is missing from the torn lower right corner) is printed in the lower right margin. The photo has been signed “Elvis Presley” in the lower right center on the reverse in pencil, and signed “Carl Denton” in blue ink along the upper edge on the reverse. The photo is accompanied by a letter from Carl Denton stating in part:

As an aspiring country singer I had appeared on several of Slim’s programs along with other singers and bands. Slim notified me that Elvis was to be on this particular show and invited me to attend because he knew I liked Elvis’s music even tho [sic] he has not yet made it big. Elvis was just beginning to receive national attention. After the show a group of us were in the locker rooms that were being used as dressing rooms. We all talked with Elvis and at some point I asked for an autographed picture. Elvis gave me a picture, but we could not find a ballpoint pen. We searched around and finally found a pencil that was used on baseball scorecards. Elvis then signed the picture on the back with pencil.

Carl Denton recalls obtaining the signature on Wednesday, September 14, 1955, and verified the date with the Wilson Daily Times of North Carolina. The photo measures approximately 8 by 10 inches (20.32 x 25.4 cm) and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The photo is in fair condition with two slight tears near the top edge center that do not affect the image. The upper left corner is missing the top photo layer, the upper right corner is covered with a triangular form of tape, the lower left corner has a fold mark with a slight area of discoloration, and the lower right corner is torn, discolored around the missing edges with slight tape residue. The photo has very slight creases overall, but none of the condition issues detract from the image of Elvis. The signature on the reverse is strong and dark.
