Montblanc is a German company that produces luxury pens. Its original German name, Meisterstück, translates to “masterpiece” in English, a fitting moniker for the high-end writing instruments. The company began manufacturing under the brand name Montblanc in 1909. Montblanc released the Monte Rosa 042 model in 1954 with two variations as a more affordable model targeted to students. They discontinued this model in 1959. Offered is a black Montblanc Monte Rosa 042G model that was personally owned by Elvis during his Army service in Germany. The G in the model number indicated the gold nib. The black cigar-shaped-body fountain pen with gold trim has a screw cap with the engraved/stamped model name above the smaller Montblanc engraving. The pen features an acrylic filler knob and translucent blue ink window. This fine and beautiful fountain pen comes with a letter, dated “9/15/93” on “E.A.P” embossed letterhead from Patsy Presley that states, “I know you will enjoy have [sic] this black + gold fountain pin [sic]. It’s actually over 30 yrs. old and was found among other personal items of Elvis’ from the Army years.” The base of the pen bears the mark “042.” The pen at one time contained blue ink as a faint blue color can be seen in the ink window of the pen. It is only fitting that the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll would use this luxury brand fountain pen. This Montblanc pen measures 5 inches (12.7 cm) in length and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The pen is in excellent, well-loved condition and exhibits signs of frequent use. While the fountain pen is not currently functioning it would likely benefit from a proper service to return it to working order.
