From The Oleander Collection

In April of 1975 Elvis Presley purchased a Convair 880 jet airplane from Delta Airlines for $250,000 and lovingly named her the Lisa Marie after his daughter. Elvis spent an additional $800,000 to customize the plane and create the pinnacle of flying function and sky-worthy style. The jet contained a lounge, conference room, sitting/guest room, master bedroom and two half-baths, all designed in shades of blue, green and gold. The plane’s registration number was changed to “N880 EP” and Elvis jokingly called her his “Flying Graceland” or “The Pride of Elvis Presley Airways.” The Lisa Marie was also nicknamed “Hound Dog One” by air traffic controllers. Elvis took his first flight on the Lisa Marie on November 27, 1975 when he flew to Las Vegas for two weeks of shows. He flew the Lisa Marie until his death on August 16, 1977, but was rarely photographed on the aircraft. His pride in this aircraft is on full display in this attractive painted rendition. The smartly framed painting depicting the Lisa Marie in flight over a mountainous landscape against an ominous sky, comes with a letter (signed in purple ink) from Ginger Alden that reads, “This oil painting was in Elvis Presley’s trophy room at Graceland in 1977. Elvis took me, Ginger Alden, on a tour of the trophy room and stopped to admire this particular painting. He was exceptionally proud of his airplane the Lisa Marie, and this particular artist’s rendering of it. He singled it out as a gift to me.” Accompanying the painting is a framed display, measuring 26 by 25 inches (66.04 x 63.5 cm), which presents 11 modern prints of photos showing the Lisa Marie, with several featuring Elvis boarding or deplaning. The small silver plaque in the center of the display reads, in part, “This original oil painting was owned by Elvis Presley and hung in his trophy room at his Graceland mansion in Memphis, Tennessee.” The canvas measures 17 1/2 by 23 3/4 inches (44.45 x 60.32 cm) and has been re-framed in recent years to a size of 22 1/2 by 28 1/2 inches (57.15 x 72.39 cm). Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The painting presents with few if any defects. There is an intermittent line of some sort of adhesive along the bottom edge, perhaps from an earlier framing. Near Mint condition.
