In 1911 the Standard Oil Company of New York (Socony) was formed after the breakup of Standard Oil. In 1928 Socony sponsored a comedy show on NBC, then on CBS, to reach radio listeners and promote their brand. It was in 1955 that Socony added Mobil Oil Company to its name and in 1963 revised its trade name from Mobil Oil to simply Mobil. Throughout this period Mobil sponsored an “Economy Run” in which the vehicles were fueled by Mobil gasoline, oil and lubricants. The winning car was that which had the highest fuel economy. Mobil has been one of the largest sellers of gasoline in the U.S. and is well known to this day for its classic red Pegasus logo. With the plethora of traveling that Elvis did, coupled with his love for automobiles, he had several varieties of gas cards including the offered “Mobil Credit Card” which was issued to Elvis Presley, numbered 816 568 964 01, and contained an expiration date of 05/77. The white card, with only the Mobil name in blue and red, listed “Elvis Presley” as the holder and the reverse has most of the signature strip worn away to reveal the printed voids underneath. At the time the card could be used at Mobil stations and other participating establishments listed on the reverse. The card comes with a copy of a handwritten letter from Patsy Presley that states, “Here are your credit cards - maybe they will do you for a couple days. Jimmy says ‘thanks again for the shorts - they fit fine. Hope all is well up your way - talk with you soon.” The Mobil credit card measures 2 1/8 by 3 3/8 inches (5.39 x 8.57 cm) and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

Card is in excellent condition overall with wear to the signature strip on the reverse.
