Suede, a type of leather with a soft textured surface, has always been considered a luxury and became increasingly popular in the fashion industry in the late 1950s, ’60s and ’70s. The offered stylish jacket marries suede panels on the front and back shoulders with a turquoise-colored sweater material on the back, collar and sleeves in a style reminiscent of a ’50s letterman jacket. The dapper suede and sweater jacket was a gift from Elvis Presley to his hair stylist for more than 20 years, Homer “Gil” Gilleland. During Elvis’ career, it was nothing for him to pick up the phone and ask Gil to hop on a plane to come to Graceland, Hollywood, Las Vegas, or wherever he might be to do Elvis’ hair. Gil was the recipient of many gifts over the years, such as jewelry, cars, and even a house. The label of the coat reads “Mister Man” and has a size label of “L” in the upper right. The small care label reads “FRONT 100% LEATHER / KNIT 100% ACRYLIC / LINING 100% NYLON / MADE IN KOREA.” The jacket comes with a letter from Thomas Morgan, dated November 21, 2017, on Shelby County Sheriff’s Department letterhead, which states in part:

The above mentioned light blue suede and fabric coat has a “Mister Man” manufacturer label. The suede and fabric are both light blue in color, with the suede a lighter shade. There is a zipper on the front of the coat and two silver buttons, one on each pocket. The size on the label is “L.” The coat belonged to Elvis A. Presley. Elvis gave the coat to Mr. Homer Gilleland who was his personal hair stylist for over twenty years preceeding [sic] Elvis’ death on August 16, 1976. During Mr. Gilleland’s employment as Elvis’ hair stylist, Elvis gave him as gifts, numerous items of clothing and personal property which belonged to Elvis, including the above mentioned coat. I swear and affirm that the forgoing item is original and authentic and given to Mr. Gilleland by Elvis Presley and acquired by me from Mr. Gilleland in the 1990s; I am the sole and rightful owner of the coat.

The jacket is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The coat shows signs of moderate wear, with some minor discoloration to the suede and areas of rougher texture. Excellent condition.
