Considered one of the most significant and oldest opaque gemstones, lapis lazuli with its deep blue color, dates back thousands of years and was treasured by ancient civilizations like those of Mesopotamia, Egypt, China, Greece, and Rome who valued it for its rich color and prized it over similar colored stones like sapphires and turquoise. Lapis lazuli, more commonly referred to as lapis, is composed of lazurite and calcite with specks of the gold-colored pyrite. The stones were often associated with good luck. The famous Egyptian, Cleopatra, used crushed lapis to create the signature eye make-up design for which she is known, and lapis lazuli was also used to decorate the tomb of King Tut and other pharaohs. From two ancient trendsetters to the fashion forward King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, lapis is a favored gemstone for accessorizing because of its deep, rich color and gold colored striations. Offered is a 14-karat yellow gold spiral designed ring set with a large lapis center stone measuring 17 by 12 mm and stamped on the interior band with a partial maker’s mark starting with “WEN” and ending in “14K.” The ring, size 12 1/2 and weighing 14.3 grams, was owned by Elvis and gifted to his Aunt Delta. The handsome ring comes with a handwritten letter from Elvis’ Graceland maid, Nancy Rooks, dated August 1, 2014, that reads “I, Nancy Rooks, work for Elvis for 10 years. His Aunt Delta was always giving the maids something Elvis had given to her. She told me Elvis had give her a ring. She say I’m going to give it to you, so one day she gave me this beautiful ring. I thank Aunt Delta for the ring.” Also included with the ring and letter is the original mailing envelope for the letter, postmarked August 1, 2014. This stylish ring is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The ring shows moderate wear from use. Excellent condition.
