From the Oleander Collection

These inspirational writings are perhaps as relevant today as they were in 1973 when these teachings were originally published in The Road Ahead: World Prophecies by the Great Master Paramahansa Yogananda, edited with commentary by his disciple and one of the foremost spiritual teachers of yoga principles, Swami Kriyananda. The back cover poses the questions, “How will you and your family and friends fare in the years to come? Will you continue to eat well? to drive your own cars? Will you still be able to vote in free elections?” against the idea “Or are we in a tailspin toward hunger, poverty, political slavery, global destruction and chaos?” Elvis was one was who wanted to be guided by faith, philosophical principles and inspirational teachings and avidly took notes and underlined passages in books he found relevant. The offered paperback copy of The Road Ahead was not only personally owned by Elvis but one in which he underscored important passages such as, “...new strides in civilization, too, more than one person often ‘chances’ on the same discovery at the same time” and “...that scientists are inspired by God to discover, at the right time and place, the secrets of His creation.” In a section entitled, “Depression” Elvis has noted a paragraph that states, “Yet the seeds of depression are still here. The so-called ‘safeguards’ with which our political leaders claim to have surrounded us are largely paper fortresses. There is no safeguard against human ignorance. There is no safeguard against greed. And greed, born of human ignorance, is the true cause of every financial depression.” There are more than 30 pages with underlining and one with notations and many dog-eared pages. On page 33 Elvis has underlined, “Into the media, where they can subtly mold public opinion?” above which he has written “2 mark of the be 147.” This section further discusses debauching the currency which based on the underlined areas was something that concerned Elvis. On the title page of the book in a different hand is written “Given to Felton From Elvis July ‘74 / Elvis’ personal book - all markings and notes made by Elvis.” The accompanying certificate “From the Felton Jarvis Collection” is signed by Felton’s nephew Tony Frost and reads, in part, “Elvis Presley’s Personal Copy of ‘The Road Ahead.’ This was Elvis’ personal copy of ‘The Road Ahead’ and contains many personal handwritten notes. Elvis was an avid reader of inspirational literature. This book documents his reflections.” Elvis was ahead of his time on many fronts and his interest in reading such topics only exemplifies his profound thoughts on a variety of subjects. The book measures 5 1/8 by 4 inches (13.01 x 10.16 cm) and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The cover and binding are intact, but well-worn. Excellent condition.
