The late Sixties and early Seventies were an interesting and innovative time for men’s fashion, and Sears led the charge with its King’s Road collection. Debuted in 1968, the King’s Road collection was a stylish clothing line for men that focused on total color harmony and touted itself as being “not for commoners” in its advertising, which included phrases like “...if he’s worth his wardrobe, he knows a guy doesn’t have to buy a lot of clothes to look like he’s bought a lot of clothes. Not if he knows how to mix and match colors and patterns and fabrics...” This last was a skill at which Elvis was adept, and befitting of a brand also named “King.”

Offered is a King’s Road blue shirt with white polka dots that was owned by the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. The button-front shirt with large collar contains a worn King’s Road label marked size large and a care tag indicating that the part-polyester shirt should be washed in warm water and tumble-dried. The shirt, gifted by Elvis to an employee of the Las Vegas Hilton, comes with a letter from Judy White dated August 20, 2012 that states in part, “My Name is Judy White and I was employed by the Las Vegas Hilton hotel. One of my main roles was to provide room service to Elvis and his entourage. One day in February 1973 Elvis gifted me with this beautiful blue and white polka dot shirt with Sears label size L.” Elvis met Muhammad Ali in Vegas in February of 1973 and Ali noted how much time Elvis spent indoors. During this same time, Elvis caught the flu and missed several engagements because of his illness. It is likely that Elvis received a plethora of room service during this time so it’s not surprising that he would have gifted his personal clothing to a Hilton staff member for their hard work. This sharp and stylish shirt is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

Other than the collar tag showing some wear, the shirt presents with no defects. Near Mint condition.
