With regularly scheduled appearances, Elvis spent a lot time in the 1970s in Las Vegas. This period ushered in many new iconic trends for Elvis, from his famous jumpsuits to his bejeweled accessories. During the early to mid-70s, capes became a standard component with his jumpsuits and he would embellish his outfits with a multitude of rings, many of which were in the gold nugget style. Offered is a 14-karat gold nugget style ring with five diamonds that he gifted to Dean Nichopoulos. Dean, son of Dr. Nick, began as Elvis’ personal racquetball coach and in 1975 became Elvis’ personal valet, tending to Elvis’ wardrobe, acting as bodyguard, and assisting with all of his personal needs both at home and on tour. Elvis was so fond of Dean that he referred to him as “the son I never had.” Dean continued working for Elvis until his passing in 1977. With someone so close to Elvis, it was not unusual for Dean to be the recipient of Elvis’ generosity and this nugget-style diamond ring was one such gift. The dazzling yellow gold nugget-style ring, measuring size 5 1/2, contains the 14K and 69 marks. The ring, weighing 12.5 grams contains five diamonds weighing 0.38 carat, and empty mounts for approximately 10 additional diamonds. The ring comes with a letter from Dean Nichopoulos that states, “This 14k gold nugget ring with five diamonds (I had five diamonds removed to make another piece of jewelry) was given to me by Elvis Presley, my friend and employer, while we were on tour in 1975. The date was July 22, 1975 and we were in Ashville [sic], North Carolina, staying at the Roadway Inn. We were in Elvis’ suite sitting on the couch with Elvis’ jeweler (Lowell Hays) looking at rings. Elvis tried this ring on his little finger and then handed it to me to try on. When I did, Elvis said, ‘It fits you better, you keep it.’ The ring is stamped number 69 on the inside of the band by Lowell Hays and is in his business records. I am glad, Tom, that you now own the ring because you remember it from 1978 when we met and I showed it to you in Memphis.” It is well documented that Elvis purchased over $85,000 worth of jewelry from Lowell during this week in July 1975 and this ring is a prime example from that treasure trove. The ring is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The ring is in excellent conditional overall with 5 diamonds intact and empty mountings for approximately 10 more stones.
