Elvis was a prolific entertainer, with 31 movies and 2 documentaries in his film catalog, which began in 1956 and continued through 1969 with Hollywood productions and then through 1972 with concert films. Throughout those years, Elvis’ talents were on display in a wide range of roles, from nightclub singer in Paramount’s 1958 production of King Creole to race car driver in MGM’s 1968 film Speedway. For each of Elvis’ films, promotional pieces would be created to advertise the movie in order to showcase Elvis’ wide-ranging acting skills, from a nascent on-screen talent working on sheer emotion and charisma, to a legitimate acting force and, finally, to a comfortable superstar delivering on expectations of sex appeal and musical entertainment. This collection of 1960s Elvis movie-related promotional pieces includes:

1960 G.I. Blues Souvenir Paper Hat, measuring 5 1/2 by 11 inches (13.97 x 27.94 cm);

1962 Girls! Girls! Girls! “Coloring Contest” sheet, measuring 11 by 8 1/2 inches (27.94 x 21.59 cm), with paint palette intact;

1965 Tickle Me promotional brochure for theater owners, with original feathers, missing original cello envelope, measuring 11 by 9 inches (27.94 x 22.86 cm); and

1965 Tickle Me set of four feather pens, measuring 11 inches in length (27.9 cm). Each pen reads “Elvis Presley in Tickle Me / It’s Your Summer Block-Buster / For Release June 30th / ©Allied Artists 1965.”

It is the plot of G.I. Blues, the first movie Elvis made after returning from his Army service, that is believed to have been the start of the popular Elvis movie formula used for years to come and that is evident in so many of his films from this period in the 1960s. This collection of promotional giveaways is a wonderful cross-section of the various styles and gimmicks employed to advertise Elvis’ popular films. The grouping is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

All the pieces presents with only the most minor defects. Near Mint condition overall, with some slightly lesser.
