From the Bill Porter Collection

Bill Porter was regarded as being able to hear sound like most of us can see color and he worked his magic through his talents in the craft of sound engineering for some of the greatest names in music. He was insistent on using the best technology available to create the perfect sounds, and if he was working with inferior equipment he would constantly check and perform preventative maintenance which he felt could solve most issues. In addition to being Elvis’ sound engineer in Vegas and on his concert tours in the 1970s, Bill obtained much of the sound equipment Elvis used, as he had a keen knowledge for what worked best. Offered is a check number 0403, dated July 4, 1976 written to Bill Porter for $100.09 signed by “E.A. Presley.” The handwritten note in the memo section indicates that payment was for a “microphone case.” This check, written on the bicentennial anniversary of the United States of America, could be seen as a celebration of Bill’s ability for acquiring premier components as evident in Elvis’ reimbursement. In an attempt to forever preserve this great relic, the check has been sealed in laminate at some point in its life and while the front of the check retains its visual appeal, the check will be forever entombed in this state. The laminated check enclosure measures 5 by 10 1/4 inches (12.7 x 26.03 cm) and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The lamination has discolored to the left side and the back of the plastic laminated sheet contains six Velcro tabs.
