Horace Smith and Daniel Baird Wesson founded Smith & Wesson in 1852. Their firearms were noted for their innovative design, high quality production and reliability. As such the Smith & Wesson pistols and revolvers have become standard issue to police and armed forces throughout the world, as well as popular with sport shooters. Given Elvis’ admiration for law enforcement and firearms, it’s only logical that he would own a Smith & Wesson revolver. The offered Smith & Wesson “grip” or handle contains the famed logo, with the encapsulated postscript of the S and W, mounted as a metal medallion near the top. It is similar to a J-frame round butt grip commonly used on a pocket revolver. This grip comes with a letter from Tish Henley in which she describes this as “Wood Handle off Elvis Presley’s Gun with a ‘W’ on it.” The letter further states in part, “One year for Christmas my husband and I replaced one of Elvis’ gun handles with more fancier one [sic]. My husband worked out the details of sneaking it away from Graceland and taking it to the gunsmith. We returned the gun back to Elvis around Christmas. He was thrilled and surprised. This is the old handle from Elvis’ gun and it was returned with the gun and new handle. It has been in my possession ever since.” The checkered hardwood grip measures 3 3/4 inches (9.52 cm) in length and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The handle exhibits heavy signs of use with nut missing so sides of handle can be separated.
