During his third and longest tour of 1977, Elvis proved to fans that attended his concert on May 23 at the Civic Center in Providence, Rhode Island that he still had it going on. Sporting his “Mexican Sundial” jumpsuit, Elvis’ set of songs was well received as noted in the Journal Bulletin article on the following day:

The packed house loved every bit of Elvis’ hour-long performance, and, by its very makeup, served to underscore the point that he hasn’t turned into a parody of his former self. There were plenty of people out there who used to be rebellious teeny-hoopers but who wear leisure suits and work in offices now. But there were a lot of younger, diehard rock’n’rollers out there, too. Before the show, many said they had come simply to take advantage of the man who started it all to “just to check it out” as one put it. But they were as moved, as stirred and as excited as their elders by the time the show was over.

Offered is a blue ticket stub from the May 23, 1977 show for Section 111, Row B, Seat 8 in the lower arena. The ticket stub comes with a letter from Helen Gratkowski that states in part, “I saw Elvis in concert on six different occasions. One of those occasions was on May 23, 1977 in Providence, RI. Please let this letter serve as provenance that the following items are authentic and obtained by me from the Elvis Presley Concert on May 23, 1977 in Providence, RI. 1) One Elvis Presley Concert Ticket. 2) Eighteen original Elvis Presley 5x7 photographs of the event taken by me.” While only ten (10) images are included in this lot, they are clear shots of Elvis evidently enjoying performing for the fans. The images are shot from a close distance and throughout the concert, as noted by the three shots of Elvis wearing a blue scarf, three of him wearing a white scarf and four without a scarf around his neck at all. The photos capture the King in all his glory—singing, playing the guitar and with a couple of images even hinting at a hip swivel or two. This is solid collection portraying his continuing reign on the stage. The ticket stub measures 2 by 1 3/4 inches (5.08 x 4.45 cm), each color photograph measures 6 by 4 inches (15.24 x 10.16 cm) and the collection is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The photos have no defects and the ticket stub shows moderate to heavy wear. Excellent condition.
