The sparkling rays effect in the star sapphire is called asterism, from the Latin word astrum, or “star.” Black star sapphires owe their stars to the included crystals of the shiny, dark mineral hematite. This unusual rope and nugget style design of this 14-karat yellow gold, diamond and black star sapphire ring helps accentuate the luster of the center stone. Star sapphires were a favorite of Elvis’ and he was as known for wearing them as often as he gifted them to friends and family. This men’s ring with eight (8) diamonds and a large center black star sapphire weighs 17.5 grams and stamped “14K” and “Pucxxx” on the interior band (part of the markings are indecipherable due to wear). The ring measures approximately size 10 3/4 with the center star sapphire measuring 12 x 9 mm and the eight diamonds having a total weight of 0.50 carat. The ring exhibits signs of being worn and loved, most likely during the height of Elvis’ tours in the 1970s. It comes with a letter signed by Ed Parker, on International Kenpo Karate Association letterhead, that states in part, “This black star sapphire 14kt gold nugget style ring with diamonds was favorite of Elvis’, and he wore it many times both on and off stage. Elvis gave me this ring at the end of one of the tours.” With a friendship spanning more than 20 years, a gift this dazzling presents a prime example of how much Elvis treasured the relationship he shared with Ed Parker, his karate instructor and bodyguard. The ring’s face measures 3/4 by 3/4 inches (1.90 x 1.90 cm). Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The ring exhibits minor wear. Near Mint condition.
