The offered example of Elvis Presley's first Sun Records release, Number 209, presents with an extremely rare label variation; on the “Blue Moon of Kentucky” label, the “209” is printed upside down. This variation is thought to exist on only the earliest pressings of the record, as it would have been corrected when Sam Phillips noticed it. This record is also a “Memphis Pressing,” as evidenced by the “delta” or “push” marks on the labels, three small indentations of the paper where the record stamper left indentations on the record itself when it was pressed at Plastic Products, Inc. where Sun had records made in Memphis. This detail usually indicates that the record is of an earlier vintage because Plastic Products didn't have a huge capacity. When Elvis' singles started selling big, Sam Phillips also had them pressed at other pressing plants in California and Pennsylvania. Those examples do not have these “delta” marks. The record label reads “That’s All Right” (Arthur Crudup), Elvis Presley, Scotty and Bill" with "Wabash BMI 209” and “Vocals U-128" on side one. On the reverse, the label reads “Blue Moon of Kentucky (Bill Monroe), Elvis Presley, Scotty and Bill" with "Peer BMI 209 (upside down)” and “Vocals U-129." The 45 measures 7 inches (17.8 cm) in diameter and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

Condition: GD+ condition with moderate to heavy scuffing and many scratches. The labels both have areas of discoloration. Still, all these defects aside, this is a very presentable mid-grade example.
Early Variation of 1954 Sun Records 209 Unplayed 45 RPM 7-Inch Single of Elvis Presleys “Thats All Right” and “Blue Moon of Kentucky” with UPSIDE DOWN “209” on Label - Memphis Pressing
