Euless is a small town just outside of Fort Worth, Texas and just over a two-hour drive from Fort Hood, where Elvis completed his basic training. The Western Hills Inn in Euless was, at the time, considered a fairly exclusive hotel for the Dallas rich and famous, with a fountain-adorned lagoon, gigantic ballroom and Caribe Club that could make tanned guests feel as if they had been transported to another world. It is believed that Elvis enjoyed spending time at the Western Hills Inn while in the Dallas- Fort Worth area and away from Fort Hood. On the evening of August 9, 1958 as the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity (likely from close-by Texas Christian University) was hosting a party, Elvis happened to be visiting and joined the festivities, as evidenced in the offered four original black-and-white snapshots and negatives. Each image shows Elvis in a white shirt and dark vest enjoying time with this lucky group. In one image Elvis can been seen tuning a guitar, which one would assume he did before belting out a tune or perhaps two for this party. Although Elvis appeared to enjoy his evening, only days later his world would change forever. Back in Memphis, Gladys had just been taken to Methodist hospital. Mere days after, on August 12th, Elvis requested emergency leave and flew back to Memphis to be with his mother, who passed on August 14th. Each photo has the processing date in the border which reads “AUG 58.” The 2012 notarized letter from photographer Maureen D. Wood states, in part, “I am the rightful owner of the above referenced pictures and their negatives. They were taken by me at the Western Hills Inn, Euless TX, while I was attending a party on August 9, 1958. …I will give the rights to the pictures and negatives to the new owner.” The negatives measure 2 1/4 by 2 1/4 inches (5.71 x 5.71 cm) and the photos measure 3 1/2 by 3 1/2 inches (8.89 x 8.89 cm). The group of images and negatives, capturing a fun evening for all, is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The negatives show few defects. Near Mint condition.
