Elvis starred in the film G.I. Blues after his Army service and appropriately the film chronicles a soldier’s attempts to realize his dreams. The soundtrack album for G.I. Blues was released by RCA in October of 1960 to coincide with the opening of the film in November. The following year, Hawaii became an important place for Elvis as it continued to be through the 1960s. His first film shot there, and later released in November 1961, was the award-winning Blue Hawaii, which finds Elvis in another musical role in which he is surrounded by adoring women. The soundtrack to the movie was released in October 1961 and spent 20 weeks at number one on the charts. Offered is a collection of four demo acetates, with seven total songs, for the soundtracks for these iconic Elvis films that include:

  • “Doin’ the Best I Can” (unknown singer) single-sided (for G.I. Blues);
  • “I’m Yours” c/w “Almost Always True” (unknown singer) (for Blue Hawaii);
  • “I Can’t Help Falling in Love” c/w “Ku U Ipo” (unknown singer, film title listed as “The Beach Boy”) (for Blue Hawaii);
  • “No More” (Don Robertson, writer) c/w “Ito Eats” (Calypso Chant, unknown) (for Blue Hawaii).

Demo acetates were typically recordings of songs by artists that would be used as a pitch for that tune to be adapted for use by a well known entertainer such as Elvis. All four of the offered 78 rpm "Electro-Vox" acetates are from Hill and Range music publishers and measure 10 inches (25.4 cm) in diameter. Interestingly, the demo disc for "I Can't Help Falling in Love" must have been from very early in the process because it lists the initial working title for Blue Hawaii, which was The Beach Boy. The group is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

All of the acetates present in playable condition, with some damage or adhesive bleeding to the labels and moderate scuffing and scratches to the records themselves. Excellent condition overall.
