Elvis’ 34th album, simply entitled Elvis, was released by RCA in November 1968. The recordings took place from June 20 to 23 in Hollywood and from June 27 and 29 at NBC Studios in Burbank. Between these recording dates on June 25, 1968, Elvis attended a press conference to announce the NBC “Singer Elvis TV Special” to air on December 3, 1968. When asked by reporters why he was doing a television special now, Elvis responded, “We figured it was about time. Besides, I figured I’d better do it now before I got too old.” Fans eagerly responded with more than 40% of the American viewing audience watching the special, giving NBC its biggest ratings victory of the year. The show was ranked as the highest-rated TV special of 1968. After airing, the segment would become commonly known as the “‘68 Comeback Special” and is widely acknowledged as the precursor to the “unplugged” concept. Not only was the concept a first in the entertainment industry, but the platform re-launched Elvis’ live-performance singing career, helping the King to reinvent himself to great acclaim and success. Offered is a collection of negatives and color transparencies from this special that include: two (2) Ektachrome X 35mm color negatives of Elvis at the June 25, 1968, press conference where the special was announced, each measuring 1 1/2 by 1 3/8 inches (3.81 x 3.49 cm); and three (3) Kodak Safety Film color camera images of Elvis performing on the special, two from the “Big Boss Man” scene and one from a gospel segment, each measuring 2 1/4 by 2 1/4 inches (5.71 x 5.71 cm). This collection is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The negatives and transparencies present with minor scratching and scuffs. Excellent condition with some better.
