From the Bill Porter Collection

Bill Porter worked for Elvis as his sound engineer in Las Vegas and during concert tours in the 1970s. Bill was as meticulous about the sounds he produced as he was about preserving documents and offered is a treasure trove of his employment records from 1970 through 1975 that includes 1099s, pay stubs and expense description receipts. Each of these period records measures 3 3/4 by 8 inches (9.52 x 20.32 cm) and includes:

  • Six (6) 1099 records for Bill Porter from 1970-1975;
  • Fifty-one (51) greenish-blue colored pay stubs from Feb 2, 1970 through August 1974 (against the Elvis Presley account);
  • July 5, 1974 letter from Tom Diskin that states, “Dear Bill, In making up the ‘Special Service’ checks the amount should have been $350. Enclosed is the additional $100. Again, our thanks for a first class job.”;
  • Fifteen (15) blue colored pay stubs from 3/17/75 though 12/12/1976;
  • Two (2) yellow colored ‘Management Three’ expense description stubs for services; and
  • Fourteen (14) white ‘Management Three’ expense description stubs for services.

Most documents cite specific dates or ranges of time for services covered and the entire collection is neatly contained in plastic holding sheets within a three-ring binder. Bill’s involvement and influence in Elvis’ music cannot be denied and this grouping confirms the constant dedication to his craft that was so valued during his employment with Elvis. The collection of employment documents is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The collection of ephemera is in excellent condition overall.
