In April of 1956, at just 21 years of age, Elvis, billed as “The Atomic Powered Singer,” performed a two-week run at the Venus Room in the New Frontier Hotel and Casino. The New Frontier building was constructed in 1955 to replace the Western-themed Last Frontier Hotel. With the space race in its infancy, the New Frontier sported a modern theme with a nod to space. About 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas was the Nevada Test Site, which was home to 952 announced nuclear tests—in the 1950s, mushroom clouds from the tests were regular tourist attractions and could be watched from hotel rooms along the Las Vegas strip. Although Elvis was already gaining popularity among teens, his reception from the Vegas crowd was cool during his first performances. However, this would prove to be far from the end of his career in Vegas. Offered is a collection of relics from Elvis’ first concert series in Vegas in 1956 that includes: a Fabulous Las Vegas magazine containing an advertisement for Elvis that measure 9 1/4 by 6 1/8 inches (23.49 x 15.55 cm); a postcard depicting the Venus Room in the Hotel New Frontier measuring 3 1/2 by 5 1/2 inches (8.89 x 13.97 cm); a New Frontier matchbook cover, measuring 4 by 2 (10.16 x 5.08 cm); a pair of New Frontier dice each with “Hotel New Frontier” etched around the one face, measuring 1/2 by 1/2 by 1/2 inch (1.27 x 1.27 x 1.27 cm); and a Hotel New Frontier smoked glass ashtray, with label underneath that views through to bottom of ashtray, measuring 4 1/2 inches (11.43 cm) in diameter. This “out of this world” collection of six (6) artifacts, marking an era of advancements both in space and Elvis’ career, is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The dice have some edge wear from use, the ashtray, magazine, and matchbook are in excellent condition overall with typical signs of age. The postcard has minor corner wear.
