Elvis’ performances at Madison Square Garden in New York City in June of 1972 were some of his most momentous, considering not only the importance of the venue and the success of the concerts, but the fact that they were his first live performances in New York since the 1950s. The first three shows sold out immediately, a first in Madison Square Garden history, prompting the addition of a fourth. Each show was attended by over 20,000 fans, making it more than 80,000 fans over the course of the weekend who enjoyed a set list consisting of his early hits, fan favorites from his movies, new hits and other songs that included “American Trilogy,” “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” “That’s All Right,” “Suspicious Minds,” “Heartbreak Hotel,” “Proud Mary” and many more. Elvis performed two shows on June 10, 1972 and RCA recorded both in preparation to release an album of the live show which would be titled Elvis: As Recorded at Madison Square Garden. RCA released the album just a week later and it achieved Gold status within only two months, in August 1972. The album had 22 tracks and despite its length, it was released as one record. Offered are two RCA white label “NOT FOR SALE” promo copies of Elvis: As Recorded at Madison Square Garden. The first promo record label lists six tracks on side one, six on side 2, five on side 3 and four on side 4, missing only the beginning (theme from 2001: A Space Odyssey) and end themes from the concert which were included on the final release. The LPs come with their white, full gatefold with the two stickers on the front that list the song titles. Each record measures 11 3/4 inches (29.84 cm) in diameter. Also included with the 1972 white label promo is a 1972 Current Audio Magazine LP that contains Elvis’ MSG Press Conference along with other interesting track segments from the day like “Mick Jagger speaks about Mick Jagger,” “Ted Kennedy on youth, dope, abortion and his future,” “The Monty Python Flying Circus” and others. Mick Jagger is featured on the cover of the gatefold and Elvis is prominently pictured on the back. The LP of Elvis’ press conference is a perfect match to the unusual “Not For Sale” promo album of Elvis’ concert at Madison Square Garden. The pair with their gatefolds are accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The vinyl presents in unplayed condition. NM. The jacket and inner sleeves are slightly toned from age, and the stickers are as well. Excellent condition.
