Dr. Elias Ghanem was a physician in Las Vegas who became the doctor to the celebrities after first treating Elvis Presley. Many performers would contract what was called “Vegas throat,” basically a sore throat from belting out tunes to the large Vegas audiences. Elvis was no exception and Dr. Ghanem, a Palestinian immigrant, went on to treat stars like Tom Jones, Glen Campbell, Raquel Welch, Johnny Cash and Liberace, to name a few. It was his friendship with Liberace that connected Dr. Ghanem to his last wife, Jody, who had performed for eight months with the flamboyant star in her role as a Radio City Rockette. Elvis was so appreciative of Dr. Ghanem’s help during his time in Vegas that, over the years, he showered him with gifts like a Stutz car, two watches, a diamond ring and a TCB medallion. Elvis would often stay with Ghanem at his Bel Air Drive home and is was not uncommon for Elvis to leave his personal items there, perhaps intentionally.

Offered is a Universal Genève 14 karat solid gold watch with a square face and champagne-colored dial with roman numerals at three, six, nine and twelve. The watch, with a 17-jewel manual winding movement, is stamped with the serial number “1864” and “14K Gold B&A” on the back of the case, along with the engraved inscription “Elvis Love Sam.” The watch face, measuring 25.5 mm, is set on a solid 14 karat gold mesh band with a fold-over clasp and measures 8 inches (20.32 cm) in length. This stylish and personalized timepiece, weighing approximately 62 grams, comes with a copy of a letter from Dr. Ghanem’s wife Jody, dated October, 25, 2016 and a notarized file copy numbered 55/57 of an inventory list in which Jody lists “the personal effects of Elvis Presley that were either given directly to Dr. Elias Ghanem or were left by Elvis in his guest bedroom while staying at Dr. Ghanem’s home located at 2981 Bel Air Dr. inside the Las Vegas Country Club.” The watch also comes with a copy of an appraisal including the watch as number 17 by John Fish Jewelers in Las Vegas provided to Jody in 2016. The watch is further accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The watch is in excellent, well-loved condition with signs of wear from use. While the time can be adjusted, it is unknown if the watch is in operational order and would likely benefit from a professional service.
