This brown shirt with a pattern of lines and squares in various shades of brown and mustard was designed for Elvis by Bill Belew and retains the I.C. Costume Company label. Hollywood designer Bill Belew, known for creating Elvis’ famous jumpsuits, designed both performance and personal wardrobes for Elvis. This shirt has the high Napoleonic collar favored in Elvis’ jumpsuits, a front button closure with five buttons and elastic cinched cuffs, and was given to Stamps Quartet member Ed Hill. The Stamps toured with Elvis during the 1970s and Ed Hill was known as the voice that would announce from backstage, “Ladies and gentlemen, Elvis has left the building. Thank you and good night.” The shirt, which measures 30 inches (76.2 cm) in length and 20 inches (50.8 cm) from shoulder seam to shoulder seam, comes with a copy of a notarized Mike Moon Certificate listing the shirt as one of the items he purchased from Ed Hill of the Stamps Quartet on March 21, 1982. The shirt is listed among “1. Six long-sleeve I.C. Costume shirts: 2 brown paisley, 2 blue paisley, 1 brown/orange paisley, 1 blue & red print.” The original letter was signed by Ed Hill and Charlie Hodge so their copied signatures appear on this certificate. Also included is a letter from “EP Archives” of Las Vegas, Nevada, indicating that the offered shirt was among the items purchased from the Mike Moon collection in 2018. The letter theorizes that the shirt was gifted to Ed Hill during the October 1976 Jungle Room sessions at Graceland. While many items of clothing were handed out by Elvis at that time, we cannot confirm this detail. While likely a simple clerical error has the shirt listed as "paisley", the image of this shirt clearly shows the offered shirt on display at Mike Moon’s Museum. Please note that this image appears for reference only and will not be included with the lot. This stylish brown shirt was custom-made by I.C. Costume Company, Hollywood, California and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The shirt is in overall excellent condition with the elastic wrist still somewhat pliable and slight fading to the collar, front sides and portions on the sleeves where they were exposed to prolonged periods of sunlight while displayed at the Mike Moon Museum. The color palette and pattern of the shirt make the fading very difficult to detect.
