Directed by Michael D. Moore, who was an assistant director on six previous Elvis films, Paradise, Hawaiian Style was Elvis’ 21st and was filmed on location in the tropical paradise of Hawaii. The working title of the movie went through several evolutions, including Polynesian Paradise, Polynesian Holiday, and Hawaiian Paradise before it was released by Paramount in 1966 under the title Paradise, Hawaiian Style. This was the final of three films that Elvis shot on location in Hawaii. It chronicles the story of Rick Richards, played by Elvis, who starts a helicopter charter service on the island offering dazzling panoramic views of Hawaii throughout the film. It was likely this spectacular scenery that would capture the curiosity of movie viewers during the trailers for upcoming releases. Offered is a, NSS 35 mm film trailer for Paradise, Hawaiian Style in its original National Screen Service box. The National Screen Service originally formed in 1920 to produce and distribute movie trailers for movie studios. The NSS evolved to control the distribution of all theatrical advertising materials for the movie industry in the U.S. from the 1940s through the 1980s. The trailer film retains its original paper label around the film which reads, “Please Return This Band Around the Proper Trailer / Thank You! / Trailers must be returned the same day you start the run of the picture” also stamped “66-80 - Paradise - HW – Style” and “COLOR” in red ink. The paper wrap is secured together with a button string wrap closure. The film trailer measures 5 1/2 inches (13.97 cm) in diameter and is housed in its original box measuring 6 3/4 by 6 3/4 by 1 1/2 inches (17.14 x 17.14 x 3.81 cm). The box retains the original shipping label listing the carrier as “Benton” and destination as a theater in Georgia (label partially missing in this area), with a plethora of further information listed including “No. 71422A,” the dates of “Oct 24” and “Oct 29,” and “Code number 650194.” The film trailer for the movie, with its breathtakingly beautiful setting in which Elvis sings and soars, is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The trailer film and wrap are in excellent condition. The box exhibits signs of heavy use, staining and discoloration, with parts of the paper label missing and wear around edges and separation at all four corners of the top of the box. The bottom of the box is in better condition, but the condition of the box only serves to enhance the visual appeal.
