Between his famed charity concert for the U.S.S. Arizona and filming three movies in the island paradise, Hawaii become an important place for Elvis in the 1960s. The first film shot there, and later released in November 1961, the award-winning Blue Hawaii finds Elvis in another musical role in which he is surrounded by adoring women. The soundtrack to the movie, released in October 1961, spent 20 weeks at number one on the charts and sold over two million copies in the first year—becoming Elvis’ biggest album seller during his lifetime. The album was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) on December 21, 1961, and then the RIAA certified it Platinum and 2X Multi-Platinum on March 27, 1992. Offered is an RCA record store advertising poster created to do double duty in cross promoting both the new 8-track release of the original LP soundtrack and the Tuesday, September 13, 1966 NBC broadcast of Blue Hawaii on television. A brilliant marketing tactic often employed by RCA and the Colonel was to use one advertisement to promote multiple media events. The bright magenta and yellow broadside was most likely an All Star Shows file copy, as the reverse of the poster shows two stamps that read “Received September 1, 1966 All Star Shows.” The offered poster, with its bold colored background, image of the LP picture sleeve and big yellow lettering, was sure to catch every fan’s attention. The poster, measuring 36 1/2 by 15 inches (92.71 x 38.1 cm), is stored flat and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The poster has benefitted from only the most minor professional restoration and reinforcement of the original folds. Blazing bright colors and few defects. Apparent Near Mint condition.
