The offered theater lobby die-cut display for Harum Scarum, Elvis Presley’s 1965 film, features the “Style Y” 40 x 60 movie poster as its central element. The posters at that size were produced on heavier stock to begin with, similar to half sheets and inserts, but to create this display the poster was mounted on heavy cardboard and then die-cut to its final, glorious shape. This offered example is missing its standee architecture, though this could most likely be remedied by some minor professional restoration. Few of these lobby displays survived the ravages of time and fickleness of early collectors. Released by MGM in November 1965, Harum Scarum was shot on the original Cecil B. DeMille set for The King of Kings. Elvis plays Johnny Tyrone, who is in the Middle East promoting his latest movie when he is mistaken for a sheik and kidnapped. The film was the fortieth highest grossing film of 1965 and reached number 11 on the Variety box office charts. The offered display blasts the Presley promotional message loud and clear as it proclaims, “1001 Swingin’ nights as Elvis brings the Big Beat to Bagdad in a riotous rockin’ rollin’ adventure spoof!!!” The display measures 57 by 32 inches (144.78 x 81.28 cm), is stored flat and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The display is missing its standee architecture, and presents with a few splits to the edges as well as overall moderate toning. Someone has put two holes near the top which previously held wire for hanging display, and the center fold has experienced minor distress, as well as the very bottom edge. Very Good to Excellent condition.
