The offered Belgian movie poster for Elvis Presley’s boxing film Kid Galahad took its lead from the U.S. posters in that it shows no boxing imagery whatsoever. But this example did add a tremendous amount of color to the artwork, creating a stunning promotional artifact. A remake of the original 1937 film, Kid Galahad stars Elvis Presley as Walter Gulick, a broke young man recently discharged from the Army who takes up boxing to earn a living. Produced by Mirisch Company and distributed by United Artists in August 1962, Kid Galahad reached number nine at the box office, with the LP soundtrack of six songs issued to coincide with the film’s release. There are two Belgian tax stamps on the lower left of the poster, but these are not considered defects to most collectors. The metal plaque on the bottom of the frame reads “Kid Galahad / Belgium.” The poster measures 12 by 20 inches (30.48 x 50.8 cm), is framed to dimensions of 15 by 23 inches (38.1 x 58.42 cm), and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.
The poster has been folded in both directions and has suffered areas of paper loss along the folds, with a more serious area in the lower center portion of the poster. Other defects include extensive scuffing overall. Very Good condition.
