Produced by Mirisch Company in 1962, the film Follow That Dream starring Elvis Presley chronicles the endeavors of a patchwork family setting up a home and business along the roadside in Florida. Based on the 1959 novel by Richard Powell entitled Pioneer, Go Home!, the film’s name was changed to Follow That Dream when the songwriters had difficulty rhyming with the word “pioneer.” Walter Mirisch also liked the final title of the song so the motion picture’s name was officially revised. Follow That Dream is set in Florida, and on-location filming began in the brutal summer heat of July 1961. The musical reached number five on Variety box office charts upon its release in April of 1962. Offered is a rare theater standee for Follow That Dream that features a giant image of a smiling Elvis strumming his guitar in the upper left. This in-theater advertisement beacons viewers to “Catch his fun-picture of them all...with all these catchy songs!” Several song titles appear below, and Elvis’ co-stars are listed along the bottom. Theater standees were often moved from theater to theater and used to promote the film throughout its run, making these large, delicate cardboard promotions rare survivors if they are intact as is the offered one. The full standing display, with two tie-backs on the reverse, measures to a height of 59 inches (149.86 cm) and a width of 32 1/2 inches (82.55 cm). This great, period film relic, stored folded in half, is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The standee has some creasing, discoloration, surface soiling and edge wear typical of a large display that has seen use, yet is in overall excellent condition.
