At the pinnacle of his worldwide popularity in the 1960s, Elvis was making one big popular Hollywood movie after another while also cranking out the hits and albums. In August of 1961, Elvis completes filming of his movie Follow That Dream and begins filming for his next feature, Kid Galahad, only a month later. That following year in April, July and August 1962, RCA releases an extended-play record containing four tracks from the film Follow That Dream; a 45 containing the singles “She’s Not You” and “Just Tell Her Jim Said Hello”; and then an extended play record entitled Kid Galahad that contains six songs from the film including “King of the Whole Wide World.” Only in South Africa does RCA release an LP entitled King of the Whole Wide World that combines these three U.S. releases into one album for a total of 12 songs on this single LP 33 RPM record.

This rare 1962 compilation RCA South African release has the RCA Victor label with “Popular 31,673” marking and is housed in the picture sleeve containing an image of Elvis from Follow That Dream centered between four crowns set against a bright red background. The back of the sleeve recounts that “Artists come and artists go but the King still remains the King! Elvis Presley is still enthroned as the monarch of all popular recording stars. Here in this exciting L.P. are the four songs from his film ‘FOLLOW THAT DREAM’ the six fabulous new numbers from ‘KID GALAHAD’ plus ‘SHE’S NOT YOU’ and ‘JUST TELL HER JIM SAID HELLO’. What a feast! What a dish to set before a King!” No words ring more true, since Elvis was certainly the pop king of the world at that time. This uncommon LP measures 12 inches (30.48 cm) in diameter and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The thinner album sleeve has a slight bow to it, with some toning, staining and crackling in the finish. The record shows signs of use with scuffing and minor scratches on the surface. Excellent condition.
