This framed RCA Victor 45 Award for “It’s Now or Never” is dedicated “To Col. Tom Parker in appreciation of his contribution toward making IT’S NOW OR NEVER a million seller / 1960.” Elvis’ best selling single ever, “It’s Now or Never” was a world-wide hit, topping the charts at number one for five weeks in the U.S. and eight weeks in the U.K. and selling more than 25 million copies globally. The ballad was recorded by Elvis at RCA Studio B in Nashville in 1960 after Freddy Bienstock had songwriters Aaron Schroeder and Wally Gold write the lyrics in less than half an hour to the melody of the Italian opera aria “O Sole Mio.” Elvis first heard Tony Martin’s version of his ballad entitled “There’s No Tomorrow,” recorded in 1949, which inspired Elvis to encourage Freddy to create a version for him. Elvis recorded the ballad in April 1960 with Scotty Moore and Hank Garland on guitars, DJ Fontana and Buddy Harman on drums, Boots Randolph on saxophone, Floyd Cramer on piano and The Jordanaires on background vocals. Bill Porter, engineer on the recording session, had suggested splicing the ending when Elvis was challenged by the high notes at the end of the song, but Elvis was insistent on recording all the way through and was successful on his fourth attempt. The song was a vocal triumph for Elvis, and after being released by RCA Victor in July 1960 as the A side with “A Mess of Blues” on side B, the song topped charts in several countries that year. Elvis’ ballad achieved the number two spot for single that year on the Cash Box chart and number seven on the Billboard chart. This framed display features a 45 single above the silver-toned plaque, both mounted on a green velvet background. The award measures approximately 16 by 14 inches (40.64 by 35.56 cm) and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The award exhibits heavy wear on the silver frame and has several areas of scuffing and scratching on the glass, as well mild oxidation on the record itself, holiday wrapping paper seals reverse, in excellent condition overall.
