The offered letter is an example of the standard fan mail response and fan club public relations letter signed by Tom Diskin. The letter states: “Because of the great volume of incoming mail it is not possible to make individual replies. Therefore, I am giving answers to those questions most often asked.” The typeset letter continues to provide numbered answers to common questions like Elvis’ pending return from the Army in March of 1960, his scheduled appearance on the ABC Television Network (which would be on The Frank Sinatra Timex Special), a movie tentatively titled G.I. Blues, Elvis earning a gold record for “Big Hunk of Love,” and Elvis’ relationship status. Tom Diskin added in his own hand in bold blue ink, “Elvis would be happy to have you form a club in his honor” and drew an arrow to answer number 5, which states, “For information on Elvis Presley souvenirs etc. write to: Mr. Harold Bell, SPECIAL PROJECTS, INC., 270 Cannon Dr., Beverly Hills, Calif.” The letter is accompanied by the original Thomas A. Parker mailing envelope, postmarked on 03 Sep 1959, which bears a 4-cent stamp and is addressed to “Miss Helen Shaw, 138 Loftus Road, Pittsburg, California.” This letter was mailed to Helen just months prior to Elvis’ return from his service in Germany. The letter measures approximately 11 by 8 1/2 inches (27.94 x 21.59 cm). Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.
The letter is in excellent condition overall with a small crease along the bottom edge and a slight tear at the center top edge. The letter exhibits evidence of once being folded for mailing. The handwritten signature and note is bright and bold.
