The offered poster features Elvis “at his greatest” promoting the 1957 MGM film Jailhouse Rock. Elvis portrays Vince Everett, our anti-hero, seen on this wonderfully preserved display piece staring down at us and contemplating the trials and tribulations of an ex-con turned singing star, and also in a photo holding co-star Jennifer Holden ever so close. The U.S. Jailhouse Rock posters are masterpieces of design and promotion of their era, and this example is no exception. The movie catches Elvis in his prime, in full ascension to super-stardom as both actor and musical performer—this poster embodies that spirit as you take it all in.

Originally titled The Hard Way, the film was finally renamed Jailhouse Kid before MGM settled on Jailhouse Rock. The film also strayed from MGM convention: it was based on a story that wasn’t already a successful book or theatre play, and it was not listed in Variety in MGM’s planned releases for the year since the original story author, Nedrick Young, had been blacklisted. Despite all this, and because of its young superstar, the film was a massive success and reached #3 in the Variety charts. The poster measures approximately 22 by 28 inches (55.88 by 71.12 cm) and is stored rolled. Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Graceland Authenticated.

The poster has been paper backed and is in excellent condition overall.
